Closed-cycle reliability
The circulation loop stays closed. Cooling comes from a Gifford-McMahon cold head, the AL600, with a parts interval of 10,000 hours. The cold head is not bolted to the sample.

Remote cooling
Cool a vibration-sensitive experiment from 20 K to 100 K while the Gifford-McMahon cold head stays at the other end of a transfer line. A second, mobile loop pre-cools superconducting magnets with helium gas instead of liquid nitrogen.
The cold head cools helium. Flexible lines carry that helium to the experiment, so the compressor and the cold head do not sit on the sample. Closed-loop systems end in a cold finger. The open-loop MPC600 sends cold gas into a cryostat the lab designs.

The circulation loop stays closed. Cooling comes from a Gifford-McMahon cold head, the AL600, with a parts interval of 10,000 hours. The cold head is not bolted to the sample.
The same circulation can take a superconducting magnet from room temperature to about 30 K before the liquid-helium fill.
Helium gas does the pre-cool, so liquid nitrogen is not poured into the magnet bath and does not contaminate it.
Helium moves at about 3.3 grams per second at 2 bar absolute.
02
The sample bolts to a cold finger. Constant-pressure helium flows through the finger, picks up heat, and returns to the GM cold head inside a vacuum chamber. The compressor, cold head, two flex lines, and motor cord are the cooler. Once the open end of an old flow cryostat is closed and the gas is pumped and recooled, no liquid cryogen is required.

| CHCS200 | 200 W at 80 K |
| Cold head | AL-series Gifford-McMahon, AL600 on the circulation system |
| What is cooled | A cold finger the sample mounts to |
| How vibration is kept off the sample | Flexible cold-helium transfer lines between the cold head and the finger |
03
Helium gas is cooled by the GM head, moved by a cryofan, and delivered to a cryostat through two bayonet transfer lines. The heat exchanger inside the cryostat is designed for the magnet. Everything else rides on a dolly.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Model | MPC600 |
| Use | Pre-cool a low-temperature superconducting magnet, including MRI, from room temperature to 30 K |
| Circulation | A cryogenic fan (cryofan) moves the helium; the GM cooler removes the heat |
| Connection | Two flexible transfer lines with bayonet fittings |
| Package | Mobile dolly |
| What the lab supplies | A high-pressure helium cylinder, power, and cooling water |
