Modular cryogenic platform

Large-scale quantum infrastructure

A row of modules that cools and wires a large quantum computer. Start with one. Add modules as the qubit count grows. The cooling unit can be changed later without pulling the wiring.

Separate cryostats do not scale into a single payload space. This platform joins modules into one vacuum chamber. The published aim is physical qubit counts in the hundreds of thousands once many modules are connected, without a matching growth in floor area.

Highlights

Start with one module

Modules come narrow or wide, and each one can be fitted as a cooling unit or as a wiring insert. A system can begin as a single module. More modules are added when the computer grows. If the cooling requirement changes, the cooling unit is replaced and the surrounding frame and wiring stay where they are.

A chamber you can walk a payload through

The platform is a self-supported vacuum chamber with doors on every side. Joined modules make one continuous interior. Each module is specified for a payload up to 800 kg. Wiring is not tied to the cooler: a module can take up to 32 side-loading ports, so lines and payload can be moved without rebuilding the cooling.

A low cabinet for a computing hall

The outside is a low cabinet so a row fits a high-performance computing room. The exterior finish can be changed for the site. The footprint of each module stays small, so a longer row does not waste floor the way a set of separate cryostats would.
